I don't know why, but I expected this to be a bit more light hearted than it was. It ended up being incredibly upsetting and I'm not sure I would be comfortable having a teenager in my life read this without a little guidance. The topics covered, including abuse and self-loathing, were very very mature and the author did not shy away from going deep with them. The writing was beautiful, but I do not think that this book should be targeted to a young audience at all. The prose was very nice and the perspectives were believable, the story unravelled nicely and I did not know where it was going to go until it went there. The cover is beautiful - the black and white looks very nice on my shelf and I think it will do very well in stores as a result, which again makes me nervous because the cover does not necessarily align with how serious the subject matter is.
