From the first opening loves this book draws in the reader. With relatable characters and realistic dialogue the author is able to create an environment that will draw in the YA audience from the start.
This allows the author to get the buy in from the audience before diving deeper into the more serious and meaningful challenges that have the biggest impact on the main character and those close to her. I think that this book tackles a multitude of real world issues that impact teens and are often not spoken about openly and honestly.
The author also adds in enough moments of challenge and triumph to keep the reader interested without painting an idealized world of the perfect ballerina in a perfect world. Rather the reader is shown a broken and perfectly imperfect protagonist in the world she creates for herself as she navigates life altering challenges.
