Feels Like the Opener to a Typical YA Contemporary, but I'm Still Interested

The first chapter of Sparrow feels like the opener to a typical YA contemporary romance. There's a nice girl who thinks the hot, popular, rich guy at school is totally awesome. I do think things move pretty quickly for a first chapter; she already has a date with Tristan by the end of the "first look." If I hadn't read the synopsis first, I wouldn't have guessed that Tristan becomes a violent boyfriend. But I'm still interested in reading on in order to find out how Tristan changes, and I'm also curious about Sparrow's dance partner. I think this has the potential to become a deep, heartfelt story; it'll just depend on the execution of the story as the novel progresses. I'd like to find out what happens! As for the cover, I think it's an OK cover - simple and sparse, but not particularly eye-catching to me personally.
