This was a great first impression. Given how short these often are, sometimes it's hard to get a really good feel for the book as a whole. But when it's clear that the strength of a story is the writing itself, books are very well served by these short snippets. This was definitely one those as the writing immediately popped off the page and sucked me in. I expect that the book will be a dark read, but the fact that the writing seems so masterful is a good sign that the author will be able to navigate a difficult subject well.
