An important read for teens ...
Sparrow sounds like the kind of book that every library needs. It is difficult to speak to teens about abuse - about silence, speaking up, and being brave in the face of evil. These are the kinds of books that change lives. Yet I don't know how much of the first chapter "sneak peek" speaks to the themes of the novel; it feels much more like a busy dropped-in-the-middle-of-things introduction, which teens will find either welcoming or confusing. It is also risky to put a "meet cute" in the very first chapter without knowing the main character very well. There is a lot to like about this first chapter, but I will want to read the entire book before deciding to purchase it for my YA collection.
