The artwork at the beginning of the chapters was extremely beautiful. I love seeing this as it gives me the feeling of a pause or a stopping point rather than just beginning with a simple number.

The story starts off with the dealings of an arranged marriage. I see that this book is intended for the YA audience. Can this perhaps be too heavy of a matter for that targeted audience? Or perhaps I'm way out of touch with this age group now.

Admittedly, I haven’t read Forest of a Thousand Lanterns, the ‘prequel’ to this one. Nor have I heard of any of the other books in this series.

This is aimed to be a standalone, but it seems like there isn't enough world building for those who are completely new to the series.
