First, the cover of this book is so beautiful and I appreciated that it explained itself rather quickly in the book (and unraveled something I didn't even notice at first!) Even my husband seemed intrigued by the story and the cover which is unusual for any book I choose to be fair.
Some young adult books tend to be too simple or so complex that you constantly find yourself wondering what the heck is going on and this book hit a happy medium the entire time. Complex enough to keep you curious and engaged without confusing the reader and I loved it.
But also, I just really loved the main characters so much. Bao and Lan each grow and learn along the way and this story was like reading a fairy tale. Highly recommend, so much so I posted about it on Instagram and will definitely seek out more works by this author.
