This book was so beautiful. I really enjoyed reading this - I am trying to not be so biased as I am of Vietnamese descent but I loved reading about some of the old folklore that not that many people know about. The love story was very believable as it is really is similar in real life in terms of social class differences and overcoming that. Some of the story reminds me of the little mermaid (a tiny bit) and a little Aladdin. However I absolutely loved it and hope more people read it and learn more about the fantastical Vietnamese stories and legends. I think Dao did a great job making these characters come to life. I can’t wait to read more from her and hopefully more Vietnamese legends and her take on it !!
