The title of this book intrigues me, when the flute of Bao is found the title becomes very clear the song must be referring to the flute that contains Bao's trapped soul. Bao can only be free once he discovers her true love and accepts his fate. Lan regrets her actions of rejecting bao so when she finds the flute she makes it her prize possession even though she doesn't know it contains Bao's soul. Lan makes the promise of helping bao break the spell despite her rejecting her. Initially the cover drew me in because of its beauty but as I read the book I found out that the contents were much better than the outside because of how well the author writes and how many metaphors the author uses.
