This story begins as a love story. The problem is beautiful Lan loves Tam, yet he always seems to be out of town. On the other hand, Bao loves Lan, but he is just a lowly peasant. How could she ever love someone from his station in life? So begins one of the themes of the story reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast. A quest must be undertaken to break an evil witches' spell and a battle is fought pitting good and evil. Some of the characters must choose between duty and love. Which will win in this love story?
I really liked the characters and was caught up in their journey. This fantasy has adventure, sacrifice, betrayal and forgiveness.
