This was an absolutely beautiful Vietnamese fantasy tale! I adored everything about it; the magic, the interweaving love stories, the rich Vietnamese culture, the characters, the world building, the strong but very feminine female lead - all of it! I couldn't read it fast enough and finished it in one sitting!
This is the story of Bao, who is in love with Lan - who unfortunately, pines after another. As Lan is a wealthy nobleman's daughter, she is nearly unattainable to Bao who is just a poor orphaned physician's apprentice. After Bao is cruelly rejected by Lan, he is trapped inside his prized flute by a witch who tells him that only true love will set him free of it.
