In reading the first several chapters one feels sorry for both Lan and Bao. Both had expectations for a change in their lives which would involve the love of someone they had developed feelings for. Instead feelings of shame and disappointment followed the disclosure that Tam had no wish to marry Lan. The reader feels Lan and Bao will eventually get together but when and how? And what will happen concerning the various kingdoms who may go to war, the medicine that is needed, and the horrible blood spotting disease? There’s an interesting story here to read.
