As a child, I loved Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women" and was very excited to read the remix. The twist is that instead of four young women from a progressive family in Connecticut, we have four young women in the free colony of Roanoke. I love the very idea of this remix, and I liked the similar personalities of the original characters. Notice I say similar, not same. For those who are looking for an exact replica, you'll be disappointed, but I honestly feel as though it's good character development not to recreate the same person in a remix. Meg is still focused on marriage, Jo is still a spitfire of a girl, Beth is still a gentle heart, and Amy is still slightly selfish as the youngest child, while Mammy is a picture of love that is trying to keep the family happy and healthy.

The only complaint I have about this story is that it drags on slightly at parts and didn't keep my interest. It was difficult to pick it back up and keep reading after these parts, but then would get interesting again.
