I glanced at the cover of this book than dove into the sneak peak and let me tell you that is the way to do it. I quickly empathized with Maria and had settled in for her story when everything changed and the plot went from a cozy family book to the thing that it is.
I did read the synapsis after and I regret it. I think it gives away too much of the plot when it is best experienced with Maria. I am interested in finishing this book, but would probably want to wait until I forget the synapsis so I'll be more surprised.
