She’s Not Sorry
Mary Kubica
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I feel kinda weird giving a suspense thriller 5 stars … feels like typically 5 stars are reserved for my life-changing, stick-with-you, gets-you-in-the-gut, speaks-to-your-soul … kind of novel. No?

But I would change nothing about She’s Not Sorry.

First impression notes: Why is this giving me all the heebie jeebies? Probably because it all hits so close to home with all of my own anxieties. Walking alone at night, always on guard, all the scary things in the world. And as a momma?! It’s too much.
P.S. I can’t imagine living in a large city. . . well, actually, I do imagine it, and am sure I would be terrified all the time.

Notes about halfway through: HOW DOES IT ALL CONNECT?? The ICU bridge patient, the abused long lost friend & her creeper abuser husband, the serial rapist attacker in the neighborhood, the creeper leaving mean notes and locking her in the basement, the daughter’s abduction?! What’s happening??

She did such a great job at casting suspicion on almost everyone, because Meghan (main character) is paranoid and suspicious, and for good reason.
And honestly, I was so paranoid the whole time I read this. Legit creeped me out, because it was so scary in such an ordinary way. Kubica used a simple language and storytelling, which I don’t always love, but it worked so much for this. It just seemed so relatable, and in that way, even more creepy.

The end of Part 1 was such an awesome, unexpected twist for me. Part 2 is full of plenty of suspense as well, how will all the loose ends be tied up, are all her worst fears going to come true after all? It’s like witnessing Meghan’s worst nightmare, but she is living in it.
And then another bomb dropped. Geeeeeze.

So good.
