I love a good mystery, and this one fit the bill for me! This author has long been on my to be read list, and I'm sure now I'll be making me way through her past works.
I love a book that opens with a really gripping first scene - often a short prologue to give you a glimpse of what's to come before jumping back in time to set up how they got there. This book had exactly that. It just set the pace right away and made me want to keep reading and not put the book down.
Aside from the really tight pacing of the plot, I think one of the most compelling elements of this book was the character development. I found the main character's voice to be engaging and entertaining as well - there were a lot of heavy themes discussed in this novel, but I felt like the author did a really good job of finding moments of humor without diminishing the seriousness of those heavier topics.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this one to mystery lovers.
