The jump from the prologue to the first chapter is a bit jarring as they are talking about two different girls/women but don't completely specify that right away. I'm not sure if it's because the narrator works in a hospital or if it's the author's writing style, but it's written with what feels like little emotion (to me) and more clinical. And the emotions/thoughts are repeated a few times before the narrator moves on to the next thing, just restating it a bit differently.
