The prologue to this book opened with some high-stakes action. A woman's daughter has been kidnapped and she is understandably terrified and worried. But since the reader has just barely been introduced to this woman and doesn't know her daughter at all, the tension is, while unexpected and surprising, not really "felt" by the reader. This is further complicated by the fact that Chapter One begins in an extremely mundane way, and there is no real tie or connection to the events of the prologue. I found myself skimming to see if I could figure out clues to the kidnapping of the beginning of actions that led to it. Just based on this first impression, I would not be interested in reading this book. It could get better, more engaging, and more suspenseful, but I'm not sure that I would want to invest the time to give it that chance.
