Overall, this book was a mind-opening read into the experiences that immigrants face in many different situations. While reading each short story, I often felt disconnected from each character but that makes sense considering they are short stories. Some stories left me angry, others left me sad, but they all ended on a cliffhanger which I loved. The choice to never finish each story relates to the uncertainty each character faces during their experience, and this fact made each story that much more enjoyable. The prose wasn’t a major factor: it neither enhanced or lowered the reading experience. This book definitely gave me more insight to immigrant experiences in the United States, but I think each story would’ve been more impactful with more time spent into building the characters and the area. Would recommend for the information in this book alone, but it was a good read!
