First off, I didn't realize these were fictionalized stories from one author. It was slightly disappointing when I realized that and I feel like it delegitimizes the book in a way.
The author, Munashe Kaseke, is a fantastic writer of the stories she is telling. You can tell that each piece has some aspect of her own experiences weaved into it. I enjoyed each story, some more than others obviously. Quite a few of them are heartbreaking; how racism and sexism hurts everyone - even things that we do to ourselves.
These are incredibly important stories to be told. I hope that plenty of people read this book and that others with similiar situations feel impowered to write more of the immigrant and/or women of color stories. Every story matters but especially those whose stories have been silent for so long.
I would recommend this to everyone.
