Send Her Back by Munashe Kaseke is a short story collection that explores the lives of many Zimbabwean women. The stories include both women who have immigrated to the United States, as well as women who currently live in Zimbabwe. I found every story to be very moving and unique.
Kaseke is clearly a skilled writer — even though this is her debut book, the writing feels incredibly polished and precise. My only regret with the short stories is that I wanted to keep reading more about each character, even as each short story stood on its own. The characters were so well crafted that it was easy to get invested in their lives. Similarly, each story was moving and powerful in its own way.
I truly enjoyed this short story collection — every story was powerful and well written. I will be eagerly awaiting to see what this author writes next — I’ll be sure to pick it up.
