I absolutely loved her debut novel Dark and Shallow Lies. It was one of my favorite books last year. Which is why I’m so conflicted with this one. I still don’t know how I feel about it. And writes incredible characters that you fall in love with. Now Avril? Not so much I didn’t care for her. She was so sad and just wanted the truth about what happened to her mother all those years ago.
Lex and Jude I loved those two but did Lex also kind of love Avril? That scene was strange. He gave mixed signals. I just thought it took way to long to get to the heart/ main plot of the story. That her mother didn’t drown at sea during her time at a Whisper Cove Theater. She was killed because she knew a secret. One that would ruin a family’s reputation. Willa Culver is not an amazing playwright. She is a liar jealous that Avril’s mother Nichole is the gifted one. She steals her work and then drowns her to cover up the scandal.
Before she could expose her lies. The other secret being that Nichole was in love with her good friend Glory. Why did she die again? I’m still not really sure if she committed suicide or if Willa had her killed? Did she know that she wrote Midnight Music? That was never really explained. I also really loved Cole. He was sweet. Although I didn’t enjoy this as much it was still a good story.
