What a read! Now, I have to get my hands on Sain's debut novel as well. (The title, Dark and Shallow Lies, intrigued me alone but now having read her sophomore write, I can't wait to dive into the debut ... AND any others that may come along here soon.)
Sain creates a beautiful story - one that you could even paint as a coming of age story based on Avril's journey from opening line to end scene. Speaking of scene, what an interesting way to tie the novel, Secrets So Deep, to the play at Whisper Cove by setting up the books chapters as Acts from a play. It adds an additional layer of connectedness between real life (of our characters) and the dream world that continues to pull at Avril's memory. As Avril seeks to uncover buried memories and seeks to learn her truth and her mother's truth, readers are taken deep into the mystery, too.
