Young adult mystery is one of the best genres out there but just doesn't have nearly as much as young adult fantasy. This book sort of combined them using the paranormal genre as a bridge. I wish it had been a little more fantasy, but it was a good balance that made this book unique and really spooky! I'm excited to now read this author's other book Dark and Shallow Lies. This one follows our main character Avril whose mother tragically died twelve years ago. She returns back to the place she died at a theater camp. I also really like young adult theater camp books. This reminded me a lot of Primal Animals. This cover was beautiful and so was the paranormal imagery in the book while also terrifying me. I flew through this in one sitting to find out what had happened to her mom and how it related to what was happening to Avril now. There was also some romance!
