I first picked up this book because I wanted a good mystery/, thriller. Some parts of the book delivered for me while others fell flat.

FIrst, the cover. I do think that the cover was sufficiently intriguing (and admittedly the primary reason I picked up the book in the first place). The darkness and the water lent a mysterious atmosphere that I think was definitely reflected in the book.

Plot. It was kind of like a dark-rediscovering-yourself-and-your-past-in-the-place-you-grew-up. It's also kind of an unreliable narrator book because you're left wondering what is real and what is a figment of imagination. The pacing was a bit off and slow for me and there wasn't a shocking climax that I really wanted. A decent read overall.

I've heard that Dark and Shallow Lies (by the same author) is a far superior book. So I will give that one a try too.
