Saving Paradise: The "Beautiful Dead Girl" Trope
I don't know how I feel about this book so far. In the first paragraph, the author sets the scene in beautiful Hawaii as the protagonist goes out to surf in the early morning dawn. In the next paragraph, he finds the dead body of a beautiful woman he doesn't even know, who he immediately was drawn toward and is "so overwhelmed I would have died to protect her." Later, it seems that he is fantasizing about the life he and this dead woman might have had together if she wasn't so...dead. I feel like the story started way too fast, and I can't get behind the whole "unrequited love" this guy feels for a dead girl - it's just not for me.
Also, although the cover is nice, it seems too dark to be reminiscent of Hawaii.
