I really didn't like anything about this excerpt. The writing is quite descriptive, and the story feels convoluted in the way that you almost have to take notes to keep up with all the characters and events. Pono, the main character, is condescending, misogynist, and, for me, completely unlikable. There is a strong insertion of right-leaning political views that is clearly the author's own agenda rather than a natural part of the story. And there are a surprising amount of editing issues, including awkward sentence structure and missing words.
