It isn't hard to see that this beautiful work of art was produced by an award winning author. Through the protagonists own voice,  this novel explores the ramifications of violence against marginalized people and the loss of innocence.

Arezu, an Iranian-American woman,  returns to the place of her trauma as a teenager along with her best friend Ellie. There, she tries to overcome her demons and completely unravels while trying to understand what happened.  This story does a wonderful job showing its readers what happens when our human rights are violated.  What it is to lose control of our lives and our bodies. It is a personal account of how women can be affected by their upbringing and the choices of men who want to assert their control. While this is a short novel that can be read in one afternoon,  its message will stay with readers for a while.
