The cover is rather blah and I don't think I've ever seen a cover with the author's name taking up half of it. It was rather obnoxious. If this author is so popular and so well-known, then why put his name in such off-puttingly large font? The synopsis felt made it feel like this story was the British version of Die Hard just on a train instead of in a skyscraper. The excerpt started out with some prologue, which I assume was to introduce the villain (who I am assuming is the unnamed "Englishman"). Then it jumped to some sort of operation by M15 (which I assume is like the American FBI or maybe CIA). Regardless, I felt it read overly masculine, which makes it a hard pass for me, and overly technical, much like a Tom Clancey book. I was immediately turned off in the prologue by the rape. Not my genre and I shan't be reading the book or watching the movie.
