The jacket cover makes clear this is a military-oriented book and the Prologue drives that point home. Although the author does an exemplary job of describing the scene, characters, and imagery, the subject matter was not to my taste. The Prologue alone contained scenes of torturous murder and rape and should likely contain a content warning.

Overall, I felt the theme of a Slavic military force overdone. Buckingham also appeared to be a fairly flat character. I also felt that jumping from scene to scene may play well cinematically, but felt abrupt when written out.

The remainder of the first look was similarly descriptive, but not sufficiently to make the book appealing. I would be interested to know what ends up happening on the train, which has been taken hostage, but will wait for the movie (maybe).
