Saint X is a beautifully written examination of grief, family, and obsession. The island of Saint X comes alive as Claire searches for answers about her sister's death there over a decade ago. Alexis Schaitkin's writing is gorgeous and insightful, exploring the tension between who someone is, who people see the as, and who they want to be. The story moved a bit slowly in the middle for me before ramping back up to its initial intensity, with the book being more about Claire's internal struggle to come to terms with her sister's death rather than the event itself. Recommended if you're into place- or character-driven stories rather than ones that focus on plot. I wasn't loving the slow pace of the book in the middle, but the good writing kept me going, and I thought it wrapped up nicely.
