When I first read the synopsis of this book, it sounded like the real-life Natalie Holloway murder. I went into the book thinking it would be a fast-moving plot, but found that it was more a slow burn. This is one case in which the synopsis did NO favors for the book - building up and encouraging the parallels between the book and the real-life murder. This seemed to be more of character-driven novel rather than a typical plot-driven thriller.
I really wanted to like the book but I think my expectations were all skewed and that completely turned me off to this book. Had I known it was more literary, more character-driven, I could have gone in with that expectation and been happy with the writing and the slower-moving plot.
