WOW this book was really different and so interesting. This is not a murder mystery which is kind of what I thought it was initially. This is the story of a family and how they change after their older daughter is suspected to have been murdered while they were on vacation in Saint X (a tropical island). Many different characters narrate chapters in this story and in jumps back and forth from the past to the present and in between. The main character, Claire (Emily) is the much younger sister of Alison who disappears while on vacation. Her body is found and she is presumed murdered although a suspect is never convicted. Claire and her parents move to Pasadena from NYC and her life completely changes in the face of her sister's death. The story is so moving and the writing so descriptive, the characters have such depth of thought. So many different takes on what happened and how everyone who was on Saint X at the time dealt with the fallout from Alison's death. Very sad but also very realistic. The many characters from different classes and races have such differing stories about where they came from, Alison's death and where they are in their current lives. Quit the portrait of society today. I really enjoyed the book so much! Thanks for the ARC!
