The cover is visually appealing. The beauty of the Caribbean beach, with a red X across it drew me in right away. The writing is simple and clear, with the local dialect represented well, and I couldn't help but want to read more.

As I read the first look, I couldn't help but think of Natalee Holloway, although there are some differences in the story (obviously). Rather than being told through the eyes of any specific person, there appears to be an omniscient narrator who takes us first over the area, then closer and closer, until we are brought directly into the resort where Alison and her family are staying. There are a lot of possible suspects, and based on the summary of the story, we already know that Alison is going to die.

The only break in narration is when Officer Roy appears, and tells part of the story from their point of view. I'm very curious to see how this plays out, what really happened to Alison, and who killed her. I'm also interested to see how her death affects her family, since each family deals with trauma in their own way. I'm definitely looking forward to getting my hands on this book.
