I especially liked the opening of the book, the approach the author took describing the island and its visitors. The writing is beautiful The cover gives warning that something untoward/sinister will happen, but we are able to enjoy the beauty for a while before things take a turn.

The characters, except for Claire, seem rather stereotypical - some of which seems to be the author's point as the resort visitors are described - but I look forward to seeing them develop as the story unfolds. Claire herself is enough to keep going, and of course we need to learn why Alison had a scar (not to mention solve the mystery of her death/disappearance).

Well worth the read, I look forward to finishing it some day!
