This book starts off with such beautiful descriptions of the island, it's easy to close your eyes and picture it in detail. We get a peak at the family's vacation and the author seems to be providing social commentary on the tourism industry with her descriptions of the tourists who are so out of touch with the realities of the island and the people who live there. Knowing Alison's fate, it is heartbreaking to read the scenes in which she is alive and frustrating not to be able to stop it! Even at 7 years old, Claire is already comparing herself to her beautiful older sister, so I can't imagine how much more difficult this relationship will get once she only has memories of sisterhood. I'm really looking forward to the rest of this story! I can't imagine how it ends!
