Sara's sister Becca disappeared a year ago, chasing Lucy Gallows into the Briar Glen woods. Sara is determined to find her, and sets off a year later with their childhood friends in an attempt to find her. All they have to do is follow the rules and they'll find her and make it back home, right? Except the road they follow doesn't want to make things easy for them and they face sinister things and death trying to find Becca and make their way out. The book alternates between Sara telling the story of following the road, and a very not-right Sara trying to be helped after the journey is complete. So it's clear that Sara gets out, but there's a lot of things that aren't clear. I'm not entirely sure if that's a happy accident or on purpose, since the post-journey interviews make it clear that Sara's recounting is tainted. The book is definitely creepy, and squirm worthy, but the ending was slightly too open-ended for me in wrapping up what is or isn't there to explain.
