Rules for Vanishing was what I thought would be a perfect spooky read to kick off the month of October. This one was a 3.5⭐️ read for me. I gave it 4⭐️ here since I round up, but it doesn't quite fit that for my true review purposes.

Pros: The plot has a great pace and keeps you wanting to read more, I felt it was a great amount of spook (it's kind of Blair witch style but better) and the story was believable which I always appreciate with a ghost type story. I genuinely enjoyed reading it and it's perfect for fall.

Cons: I didn't connect with a single character or feel like I got to know any of them well despite it being 400+ pages. It's LGBT friendly but I felt like that plotline was incredibly underdeveloped and would loved to have seen more for it to have felt like a truly representative read. And for a book that centers on a place, I felt like it needed a lot more world building and setting work. It's better than other 3⭐️ reads I've had lately which gives it the extra half star for me, but I wouldn't quite put it at 4⭐️s. I'd recommend it for someone that likes ghost stories though!
