I love horror stories so I generally have high expectations. When I read the excerpt, I thought it sounded really interesting. However, the first impression was wonderful. Not only was the writing great, but it immediately gave me a horror feel. They start out with the main character being recorded explaining what happened. Then she describes a day at school so you get some history of the characters and what they meant to one another. I got a real Stranger Things/Stand By Me kind of vibe from the group of kids that promised their friendship to one another in the first grade.
