Left Wanting to Know More
The cover conveys a sense of foreboding, in what I would guess from first glance to be a wooded setting. The colors are attention grabbing and compliment the chapters I read.
Rules for Vanishing alternates between interview style chapters, first-person narrative and transcript style modes. I liked the style of breaking up the story into different color points of view. Sometimes when one character controls the narrative, you don't get a sense of how the other characters are reacting or feeling. I cannot recall another book I've read recently that used this style. It brings a freshness to the storyline.
I was immediately drawn into the story, even though I routinely avoid scary stories. I am really rooting for Sara, the main character, to find her lost sister Becca and hopefully her sense of self on this journey down the road.
