Definitely not a slow-burn romance, lol! Things got spicy by page 40!

Anh - or Annie, depending on who she's introducing herself to - is fleeing a bad engagement breakup when she takes a position at a hospital in Rome, Rhode Island. But when the hottie she's renting a room from unexpectedly returns after a bad injury, she may have to watch her heart to not fall for his wiles. Unless Emmitt's struggle to find his place in his teen daughter's life wins Anh over.

The sweetest aspect of this book is Anh's search for a place that she truly belongs. The character is based on the author's daughter, who struggled to feel at home after a transracial, transnational adoption. Anh is Vietnamese, but was adopted by white parents and raised in a primarily white community. She feels out of place there, but feels even more out of place when surrounded by other Vietnamese people, as she doesn't know the culture or the language. But by the end of the book, Anh may have found a place to belong.
