Proving Magic is Never Truly Dead for Those Who Believe
4.25/5 stars! This was such an enjoyable middle-grade read. It has magic, adventure, and overcoming obstacles and is written in a way that appeals to both young and casual readers. The story flew and left the reader excited for the sequel. I do wonder if it could have been fleshed out more, but it's a good length for a middle-grade story. The cover of the book is super fun and is reminiscent of the original Percy Jackson covers. I think it would stand out on the bookshelf.
Now, regarding the story, Zach was such a well-written character, perfectly embodying what it is to be young, finding yourself, and being pulled into an accidental adventure. My personal favorite character was probably Ash, however. I'm always a fan of demon characters and Ash was sassy, helpful, and full of secrets in equal measure. The queer representation was handled beautifully and added to the story as a whole. Really looking forward to seeing what the sequel holds.
