I'm not really sure how to evaluate children's books since I'm very much not the target audience. This seems fine? It gets right into the action, introducing the magic ring and demon king in the first 30 pages and the Judaic mythology inspired fantasy elements seem like they'd appeal to kids into Percy Jackson and the like. The characters so far were pretty generic with the typical middle-grade protagonist problems - bullies, unlikable older family members, feeling like an outcast.
