When Zach finds a unique ring at a local flea market, he intends to give it to his mom for her 40th birthday. However, he soon realizes that the ring gives him the ability to communicate with animals (with some comically disastrous effects). Zach also accidentally uses the ring to summon Ashmedai, King of demons. Author Aden Polydoros gets things off to a strong start in this First Look. Zach has a crush on another boy and is dealing with a bully at school, and there's a push-and-pull between his dad's Christian side of the family and his mom's Jewish side. I find the cover a bit corny; it resembles a style that was popular fifteen years ago. However, I hope this one finds its intended middle grade audience!
