My first impression of this book was higher than it actually turned out to be. I feel like the 3 story lines were a bit disjointed and didn't really mesh well together. For instance, I didn't really see the purpose of Gaelle's section of the book. Nothing really happens and I was left with so many unanswered questions like how did Winter ended up in the nursing home? Or how does Josiah traverse time and age? Also the ending of the book seemed kind of random and abrupt. I pushed through to finish the book because I wanted to give it a fair assessment and thought that maybe it would get better as I went along but it didn't. This is the second book that I have read recently that involved magical realism during slavery and I can probably say definitively now that this genre just isn't my cup of tea. Overall the story line didn't really grab my attention and it was a struggle bus to keep reading.
