I really liked the premise of this book, but the plot threads just never really felt like they came together for me. Woods does a good job with developing characters, and they each have their own distinct voices, but the movement between perspectives seems disjointed.

The concept is unique, and there’s a good balance between realistic historical fiction and supernatural elements to keep it intriguing. The chronology put me off-kilter, though. I would have appreciated having more of my questions answered about the timeline with info revealed in small bits throughout the story. The modern segment of the story seems the most awkwardly inserted, and I wish that had been more clearly tied to the rest of the plot.
