As a huge fan of historical fiction, the premise of Remembrance was very exciting but unfortunately this book didn't work for me. Even though the writing was beautiful and the characters seemed well-developed, I couldn't get invested in the story. The writing, despite being great, was too dense and overly descriptive, thus I found myself lost many times and having to go back in order to follow the plot. Furthermore, my interest in the characters was unequal - which I was more interested in Margot and didn't connect with the others.

My biggest critique with this novel was the pace - while I was reading pages, I felt like nothing really happened and it was quite repetitive. The magical realism elements didn't help to make me engaged with the story.
Having said that, this book explores relevant themes such as slavery, racism and colonialism.
