I wanted more depth to the characters

This book has four different narrators and I found each of them interesting. Gaelle is a nurse living in modern day America, but is a refugee from Haiti. Abigail is an enslaved woman stolen from her home in Africa and working a sugar plantation in the Caribbean. Margot is another enslaved woman working in a grand house in New Orleans. Winter has never been enslaved, but lives in fear of slave catchers nonetheless. Each of these women has a certain power to see the world at its atomic level and manipulate matter in different ways. All of them use their power to help others.

The basic premise of this book is really interesting. The reason that it was only so so for me is that I didn’t feel like I got to know any of the characters really well. I didn’t get to spend enough time with any one of them. And the end felt like it was unfinished. In other words, I’m still hoping for a sequel.
