I wanted Remembrance, by Rita Wood, to put me into the slave experience of my ancestors. This book did it in a different way, a way that showed we did exist in our own communities, but not without a bit of the fantasy they say we brought with us across the waters from Home! Initially I thought the old lady in the nursing home was Margot but that was not so. It was Winter. Mother Abigail was the book's "Harriet" and was bigger in attitude and perhaps size than all the women described and rightfully so. I was sad to see that she had not survived. The magic in the book was passed on to Winter from Mother Abigail and then to Gaelle. A sequel would be the topping on the cake. I thoroughly enjoyed this book an look forward to other books by this author.
