What initially drew me to Remembrance were the colours on the cover- warm and calming. But the woman's face shows an internal conflict that she herself does not seem to understand.

Moving into the story, we are presented by three women of colour from distinct moments in time.

Margot- New Orleans, 1857
Abigail- Haiti, 1971
Gaelle- Ohio, Present Day

I found something in each of their stories that drew me in. Margot and the challenges she face in a world that spread only disease and hatred.
Abigail (my favourite), who is trapped in the midst of revolution and chaos, suddenly shown the immense power that lay within her. She is given an opportunity to help people and she takes it! And finally, Gaelle, who is uncertain in herself as something stirs within her.

I appreciate how their stories were interwoven, but I must admit that I have my qualms. Although the story was absolutely beautiful, the pace felt a bit sluggish at times. And there were often times (to me) very sudden jumps from one character to another just as I became invested in what a character was presenting.

I recommend reading Remembrance for the messages it conveys and the feeling it leaves with you. It is definitely something you won't forget.
